PAST WINNERS

The ITEC Innovation Award was established in 2005 and was launched at the British Female Inventor and Innovators' Network Awards in 2006 and has gone from strength to strength since then.

Some winners have invented new ITEC applications; others have used ITEC in an innovative way. Here are the winners. The ITEC innovation award is expanding to many more categories.

Maire McLoone with herITEC Innovation Award

Dr Maire McLoone - High Speed Security

British Female Inventor of the Year 2007 and winner of ITEC Innovation Platinum Award 2007
As the Internet becomes more prolific so, unfortunately, does cyber crime such as identity theft, yet we also want everything at high speed. Maire won her awards for her contribution to e-Security, with a software and hardware solution that increases security of data transfer without compromising speed.

Kathryn Bullock with her ITEC Innovation Award

Kathryn Bullock - VillasforTravel.com

ITEC Innovation Diamond Award 2007
Kathryn won her award for her innovative approach to holiday villa hire. Kathryn's innovative idea allows villa owners to offer their properties through multiple distributors and update their information themselves. She worked with a software house to develop the software that enabled this and her site goes from strength to strength.

Eleanor Ford with her ITEC Innovation Award

Eleanor Ford - LikeCube

ITEC Innovation Silver Award 2007
When travelling Eleanor was frustrated by having to rely on guidebooks and reviews; how can you know what one person likes/dislikes will be the same as your own likes/dislikes. Eleanor's idea applied recommendation software (e.g. "people who bought this also bought") to the travel industry; LikeCube recommends what people like you like.

Liping Zhang with her Innovation Award

Liping Zhang - Porous Metal

Liping played a crucial role in the development of a novel sintering process (Lost Carbonate Sintering, LCS) capable of producing a wide variety of porous metal and alloy materials, which are light weight and have exceptional mechanical, thermal and acoustic properties. Liping’s method is more versatile, environmentally-friendly and cost-competitive than existing processes.

Morag Hutchenson - Pre.Vu

Morag was awarded the British Female Inventor of the Year 2006 title for her music sampling device. The device is built into the spine of a standard CD case and allows prospective viewers to preview the audio content of the CD. This "try before you buy" device includes the total solution; providing the software for compressing audio files and the machinery to upload the audio. The 60 sec. sample time has applications beyond previewing music to sending voice messages with gifts and more.

Dr Helen Lee - Diagnostics for the Real World

Helen was awared Inventor in Industry 2006 for her fast, simple and inexpensive diagnostic tools that identify a wide range of infectious diseases. Helen's work has important ramifications for public health in developing countries where remoteness, finance and availability of trained staff are obstacles that her innovation contributes to alliviating. The specific diagnostic test for which Helen won was Chlamydia Rapid Test and the First Burst Urine Collector.

Megan Beynon with her award winning innovation Peridot

Megan Beynon - Peridot

ITEC Innovation Platinum Award 2006
Peridot is a tool that automatically manages websites so administrators do not have to trawl through checking that links point to content that they were originally intended to. Peridot scans a website and even searches for alternative sites when links are out of date. This not only saves companies time and money but maintains the site's image.

Ruth Woodward, ITEC Innnovation award winner

Ruth Woodward - Terahertz Technology

Ruth identified Terahertz (non-ionising waves of radiation that are able to penetrate a wide variety of non-conducting materials) Technology as suitable for applications in medicine. Ruth devised innovative analytical techniques to differentiate between cancerous and normal tissues. Her innovation has particular relevance to the study of skin and breast cancer. Her work has made an important contribution to the development of cancer treatments.
